The Fox, Boars Hill
Greenalls
Monday to Saturday 11am to 2.30pm, 6pm to 11pm
Sunday 12 noon to 2.30pm, 6pm to 11pm
Food: all days 12 noon to 2.30pm, 6.30pm to 9pm (22.v.1998)

This is on the far side of Boars Hill from Oxford where it descends
towards the villages of St Helen Without. The pub itself is on the south
side of Boars Hill and on a slight slope up towards the main road. They do
food at the times advertised above (which I haven't tried), and they
generally have three ales on: Greenalls Original, Tetley's, and a guest.
It was Umbel Ale in May, interesting stuff with a coriander aftertaste.

The back garden slopes away dramatically and is dominated by a maypole,
surrounded by benches, Greenalls umbrellas, arbours and a pergola
decorated with a few straggly clematis. There's a non-specific Greek bust
down the bottom.

It's decorated inside with the usual pub tat: blackboards with the menus
on, a history of Boars Hill in squiggly handwriting, and several twee
malpunctuated slogans, like "She was a good cook, as cook's go, and as
cook's go, she went." There's a vending machine for disposable nappies in
the Ladies, apparently. Fifteen degrees. (22.v.1998)
