The Isles Inn
Somerled Square, Portree, Skye

I have to say I feared the worst looking at the pub from the outside, with
its giant cutouts of Highlanders in old-fashioned dress.

On the inside, though, it's really good. Two real ales on cask (one of
which was Adnams. I didn't come all the way from Suffolk to find a pub
that did Adnams. Still, a huge improvement on Greene King) and a fridge
full of Red Cuillin and Black Cuillin from the Isle of Skye brewery.

They do locally-sourced food at restaurant prices too. I had the scallops
from Sconser. And live folk music two or three times a week.

It was so packed on both occasions it was hard to make out the discreet
portraits of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora Macdonald and the stuffed
birds of prey hanging from the ceiling.
