Saturday 12pm-3pm, 7pm-11pm
Sunday 12pm-3pm, 7pm-10.30pm

    * Marston Pedigree £2.06
    * Ind Coope Burton Ale £2.20
    * Southern Comfort and Lemonade £1.80 (29.iv.2000)

Carpeted, with two fires, one by the bar and one in the corner, and
generally full, especially towards closing time on a Saturday, this is
probably the best pub in Headington apart from the Butcher's Arms,
especially since it's opposite the church in the old villagy bit of the
town.

Closest in spirit to the White Hart at Wytham, but better executed (and
less far of a walk). Four casks, of which one is a rotated guest. However,
the next one is, predictably enough, Adnams Broadside. They have fallen
prey to the one-size-fits-all Bass guest ale policy after being Halls and
most recently Allied Domecq.

It has a big uphill garden out the back, with benches and a splendid view
of the stars at night (when they switch the lights off). The service is
quick, and the bar staff are friendly and helpful every time I've been.

Definitely the place to go in Old Headington. (29.iv.2000)
