The Shelley Arms (Halls)
Cricket Road, Cowley St John, Oxford
Duncan Parkes says: the Shelley looks very closed. (2011-10-05)
Adnam's Southwold Bitter GBP 1.95 (2001-06-05)
Very brown pub on the inside, squarish and bricky prewar estatish on the
outside, with red furnishings. The sign shows canting arms which may be
those of Percy Bysshe.
There used to be a dog here, but it wasn't there. It was very quiet
indeed on a Tuesday evening, with only about half a dozen customers
watching a documentary on Channel Four. Decent pint of Adnams. They did
Brakspear's when I was last here (three and a half years ago, which is
probably remiss of me). Now they have a bar billiards table. An old man
gave us (me and James "Silk" Davey) advice on what to do. Silk managed to
sink the black ball in the 200 point hole, which I've never seen an
occasional player do before.
